Coast to Coast

Garrett finished his last day of work and couldn’t have been happier. I was happy that he was done for his sake! So we packed everything up, threw Garth a little party, slept on the couch and headed for the west coast.

We left Virginia and then drove through...

My favorite to drive through was probably West Virginia or Indiana.

Our first destination was Davenport, Iowa. From Fairfax, Virginia it ended up being almost 14 hours. It went pretty good except for the last 2 hours so we were of course happy to be there. Davenport is actually where Garrett was born and lived for the first 2 ½ months of his life. The real reason we stopped there though was because we were touring Palmer Chiropractic College. This is where Garrett would love to go to school.

The tour started at 10:30 and lasted until about 4 and Garrett thought it went pretty fast! We were able to hear from some professors, tour the school, and clinic. It was very informative and will help us make a decision. We stopped at Whitey’s for ice cream and drove past Debbie and Vince’s old house, the hospital, and where Debbie worked. It was cool to see the things I have been hearing about. Davenport is an older city that is apart of the Quad Cities that include 2 on the western side of the Mississippi River in Iowa and 2 on the eastern side in Illinois. There is a lot to see there and do.

*This is the house Garrett lived in for the first little bit*

That night we went out to eat at the Barrelhouse recommended by many people and then walked down by the river and out on the skybridge/walk/thing. You could say that we take a lot of pictures, and it might be true. So here they come..

This is his "I'm over it face"
Then I say please smile and I get this sarcastic face...
Then he is a nice boy and smiles for the camera

 *not planned*

Then when it got dark we headed up to the skybridge.

Next stop was Lincoln, Nebraska to see Devin, Torrie, and Emmett!

I hadn’t seen them since last November when Emmett was only 2 months old so it was so fun to spend time with them!!

*Because Uncle Garrett is really funny*

On Saturday we went over to the school and the boys played some tennis, Torrie and I went for a walk and then hung out there for awhile!

We got Emmett a basketball hoop for his 1st birthday and so our weekend consisted of watching him play with it or of us playing with it. It was funny because the first day we were there (Saturday) he was scared of the hoop and had no interest in it. Then on Sunday he would dunk the small tiny ball and would go up to the hoop with the ball that it came with, hold it up there and not want to let go. We have the cutest video of him after church freaking out because we were all cheering for him after he made it.

I also attempted to take their family pictures and Emmett’s 1-year pictures and they turned out surprisingly good! Emmett was camera shy I think because as soon as I put the camera up he was serious and then when I took it down he was all smiles. It was actually pretty funny. Devin, Torrie and Garrett were rockstars at working hard to try to get him to smile!

His eyes and eyelashes are to die for!! We really enjoyed our time that we got to spend with them! Garrett and Devin got to go golfing and spending time with Torrie was really fun since we don’t get to do it very often. The morning that we were planning to leave we got to watch Emmett while Torrie went to the doctors and Devin was at school. He is so fun and easy going!! We adore him and miss him tons!

Our third stop was Lander for a few days.

While we were traveling all over the place Garrett said, “I can’t wait to be somewhere that we know.” Lander was a nice place to be and relax. We played a lot of phase 10 and played with Mack. Being adjusted multiple times by Vince was also very nice but also very painful. Garrett and Vince golfed and Debbie and I walked one night! It was a good few days to relax and spend time with them! It was short but good to know that we would be back.

Next stop, California! We met up with Jon and Katrina in Utah on Friday afternoon and then we headed even farther west!

Oh and as you can imagine we saw a few corn fields...
