JULY 4th in DC

I finally got to head to DC to see Garrett again! It was about a six week time span that we didn't see each other. So July second was the best day! I was able to fly out of Idaho Falls this time and there were not delays or anything so I made it right on time to DC. He was there waiting for me at Dunkin' Donuts again and it was the happiest sight. This has been a trial and a hard time but every time I get to see him makes it worth it. We hit up McDonald's for my first two meals out there haha.

Friday morning we headed to Arlington National Cemetery and although it took us a while to find the entrance, dang Siri, we finally did and it was worth it! Wow is it quite the sight to see. It is almost too hard to comprehend all of the lives that were taken for our freedom that we enjoy today.

We went and saw the 'Tomb of the Unknown Solider' and the changing of the guard while we were there and it was cool to see how sacred it is and the way that they treat it. In one of the centers we read about how it came to be and it was interesting because there were four bodies brought forward to be chosen and one was picked. One body in that tomb represents the thousands that are still unknown.

"Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God"

John F. Kennedy is also buried at Arlington Cemetery so we got to see his grave there.

Then we headed back to Fairfax for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory on Alterra! The
cheesecake did not disappoint. The blue cheese on my salad did.

We had been planning to go to the National's baseball game while I was there so we of course had to buy shirts and go all out! We went to Target and luckily found shirts that we actually really liked! Traffic was pretty awful to get there so we were a little bit late but let's be honest, baseball games are long and we didn't even miss anyone scoring so it was all good!
*We were obviously very excited about our shirts*

As soon as we got to our seats it started raining so we sat under the umbrella for a while but it was perfect! We actually ended up having really good seats for a good price!
We clearly had to try out some food at the game so we got these delicious fries from Box Frites.
Parmesan & Garlic
The Nats won and we like to say, "Everyone game we go to, they win. It's good to be a Nats fan." After the game there was a firework show, we couldn't find our car (and we were in the ghetto, talk about scared), and we got a parking ticket.
Don't ask me what NATITUDE means, because I don't know but I like the sound of it.
After the game we went to check out the Lincoln Memorial all lite up which was awesome. Abraham Lincoln is so good, the real guy, and the statue. He is massive! I've said it before but being in DC really have given me an appreciation for the world that we live in today and for everyone before us that did all that they did to make this country possible.

And then we had a good time taking lots of pictures so here they come...

I'm the strong one in this relationship ;)

Yep, that's a lot of pictures of us hahah. But with us being apart, I've really decided that you only regret the pictures that you don't take. Plus I come home and stare at them for a month until I get to see him again. That night we were hungry when we got back and our options were McDonald's or the Silver Diner. So we decided to try it out.
It's the cutest little place. We decided to share the gluten free paradise french toast. We are forever changed. It was SO GOOD! We loved it so much we went back Saturday night too!

Saturday was the 4th of July! We got up to get ready and it was rainy and not super nice outside.. so we went back to bed. We decided not to go to the parade because of the weather and I'm honestly glad that we didn't. Garrett picked us up McDonald's for breakfast and we got ready and then just did normal things which was nice.

We went to Wal-Mart and got me a tennis racket because I have been wanting to take it up for quite a while now and since they didn't have one for Garrett we went on the hunt for one for him. We finally found him one at Target. Then we went to Panera Bread for lunch, they have the best soup and salad. Then we decided to go try out our tennis rackets. We aren't the best but we can only go up for here. Right as we got in the car to head down to DC for the night the radio said that everyone in DC should be finding shelter and if the storm didn't pass before 5 there would be no firework show that night. Greaaaaat. So we got ourselves a drink, drove around, and I made him take pictures with me haha.

Mountain Dew for him, Lemonade for me.
Guess whose idea this picture was...

He's seriously the cutest. And I'm so grateful that he is so willing to take pictures with me! We then decided to head to the National Mall for the night. We decided to drive because we hate the metro. We found a parking spot quite easily and didn't have to pay and didn't get a ticket. Win for us!
It was crazy busy! We go there and walked around for awhile trying to decide where to watch fireworks from. We saw the Jefferson Memorial from a distance but still have yet to get over to it.

Some people from Garrett's team showed up so we went and said hi to them. They were at the concert that was going on over by the Washington Memorial. People were dancing and singing and it was tons of fun! It was a band of people from the police and armed forces and they were AWESOME. They sang all different types of genres with new and older music that most people would know and it was so fun!

So we walked around and then went back to the concert because it was too fun! then as it was getting closer to time for the fireworks we were moving around a little bit. The show was awesome but we didn't want to be stuck in all that traffic so we headed to the car. But we were walking in the direction the show so we still got to watch.

The traffic wasn't bad on the way out, we got more french toast, and had the best time! It was a fourth of July that we will never forget!

One thing we will never understand is why we are always so tired when I come. I cannot pull myself out of bed. So Sunday we slept in, checked out and laid by the pool for an hour or so before getting ready to head to the airport. I always dread this day.

Grateful for the weekend that we had and the time that we had together. The best news is that we are on the downhill! 1 more month til we are together for good. 24 days to be exact.
